Gutters On A Residential Roofer

In every residential roofer, a rain gutter is important to channel the rain to where it needs to be drained

. There are different types of gutter designs. Narrow and wide rain gutters provide the same purpose. However, the different designs often serve as a way of adding style to the roof. Basically, the main function of a gutter is to prevent water from flowing into the building. This will prevent leaks and erosion, which will occur over several years of rainwater exposure. Furthermore, gutters also protect the paint of the house by reducing water contact into the paint. This will extend the buildings life span since water is channeled away from the wood or concrete that makes up the building. On the other hand, gutters on a residential roofer are used as an alternative method of collecting water. The water that is channeled by the gutter often end up on a collecting tank to be used as the primary source of fresh water. A residential roofer often uses gutters that are made of the same material as the roof. However, other materials can be used as an effective rain gutter. Galvanized steel, iron, aluminum, painted copper, concrete, wood and PVC can be used as a gutter.

Residential roofer gutter design

Gutters are made from a folded piece of flat steel that is formed into a canal-like structure to allow water to flow freely towards a drain at the end. Most often, the roofing design is matched to the gutter. Several types of gutters vary according to design.

1.K-style gutter This type of gutter is the most popular because of its simple yet sturdy design. This type of gutter is made from two to three seam folds, which are easy to make. K-style gutters are cost efficient and easy to install.

2.Fascia style gutter This type of gutter is more or less the same with a k-style gutter when it comes to profile design. However, some parts of the gutter are made smooth. This gutter design holds more water compared to other designs. For this reason, fascia gutters can be made narrower to make it less apparent on a residential roof.

3.Sectional gutters This type of gutter is considered to be as a good alternative to seamless gutters because they come on pre-determined shapes, which are already cut according to specifications. During installation, the pieces are then welded together to create the best fit possible. Since this gutter is pre-cut, homeowners can install the gutter by themselves.

Residential roof gutter consideration

During heavy season of rainfall, it is important to check the gutter for leaks or clogs. Clogged gutters can accumulate water, which can be a good breeding ground for mosquitoes. On the other hand, when it comes to leaks, you can use a water sealant on gutters that have leaks. Check the gutter for rust formations every year, and make sure to change the screw or nail that is anchoring the gutter into the roof. To prevent rust from forming, a special kind of anti-rust paint can be used to keep your residential roof rust free.
