Guys: How To Get Over A Break Up By Making Changes

A change is as good a rest, or so they say. (Whoever "They" are, but "They" get around.) If you'd like a rest from what you've been going through emotionally of late, maybe it's time to consider making some more changes in your life. Learning how to get over a break up can be done piece by piece. So let's address the down days. Those days when you may feel a bit sad for no particular reason, other than what you've generally been going through. Let me make it clear - I don't mean clinical depression - I'm not qualified to advise you on that, so for professional advice about that topic you need to speak with your physician or GP. The ones I'm referring to are the days that you spend feeling listless, nostalgic and need a distraction. They key to dealing with this state is to break it by changing something.Let's start with making some changes in the area of reminders of her. What I'm talking about falls into two broad categories:"Stuff" like photographs, ornaments, presents"Channels" like facebook, speed-dial, phonebook memory space, the places you hang out at online.I'm going to challenge you to make some changes in these areas, if you're serious about how to get over a break up. Go through the stuff she got you and get rid of the things you can do without. Obviously if one of those items was a'74 Fender Strat signed by your favourite rock god, you might think twice about it. What I mean is small stuff of low material value but that has a high sentimental attachment.Sort out all of your electronic gadgets and remove her details. If you must keep her number do so, but don't have it on the first page of your phonebook, speed dial or anything else. I'd strongly recommend taking her off your list of facebook friends too. This isn't a petty act of defiance or spite, but it won't help you to be constantly pulled back into your old life. Have a real purge on reminders of her in your physical and electronic environment.I want you to now focus on your living environment. It doesn't matter whether you live at home with Mom and Dad, rent or share a room at college or have your own place. Making some changes in what you see, hear and feel around you is going to help. I appreciate there could be limits on this, but here's a few suggestions:Re-arrange your furniture. (Feng Shui optional)Change your pictures or postersPaint the wallsRedecorate a complete roomStop listening to music that puts you into a down state - change your tracksGo watch some comedy on DVD or even better, go see it live. Laughter is the best medicine when you're feeling down.Fill your immediate world with stuff that makes you feel good and watch what happens. There are lots more areas to focus on than we've dealt with here, but learning how to get over a break up can start with some easy wins - a few instant successes that you can do without too much thought. Go for some quick ones first, then turn and look inwards and see what needs to change there too.
