H Pylori Symptoms:
Helicobacter pylori, commonly referred to as H
. pylori, is a spiral bacteria that usually resides beneath the mucus layer next to the gastric cells. H. pylori infection is commonly associated with the occurrence of peptic ulcers and gastritis.
Following are some commonly observed H. pylori symptoms:
Anaemia:
Many studies have indicated that anaemia, caused by an iron deficiency, is closely associated with H. pylori. When the H. pylori infection occurs in the presence of reduced stomach acid, it becomes difficult for the patient to digest food, especially protein. And if the food isnt properly digested, it affects the absorption of minerals in the body. This, in turn, results in iron deficiency.
Abdominal pain:
H. pylori can cause inflammation in the stomach and small intestine. It slows down the digestive process and causes a build up of gases in the intestine. The sluggish digestive system can cause abdominal pain and constipation. H. pylori also facilitates yeast overgrowth (Candida) and causes other digestive infections, such as Giardia lamblia and Blastocystis hominis. All these secondary infections can cause diarrhea, bloating and flatulence.
Heartburn:
If H. pylori remains in the stomach for a long period, it can damage the parietal cells. This can result in the production of an excess amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Hydrochloric acid in turn can burn the delicate stomach lining and can cause severe heartburn.
Chest pain:
Nerves from the 4th to 8th thoracic vertebrae can innervate the stomach. These vertebrae correspond to the stomach areas, shoulder blade and chest. If the stomach gets inflamed due to an H. pylori infection, the pain signals can come out from the stomach, and cause pain in other areas too.
Vomiting and Nausea:
These two are the most common symptoms of H. pylori. The body tries to get rid of the H. pylori infection by ejecting it out through vomiting.
In extreme cases, H. pylori symptoms can include migraines, sinus problems, sleep disorders, weight gain, fatigue, anxiety and urticaria.
Its advised that you visit your doctor after experiencing any of these
H. pylori symptoms.
