HOW TO GET RID OF STRESS - ARTICLE 3
In the last issue we talked about how to identify your biggest stressors because knowing what they are enables you to start to do something about them. It gives you much more power and puts you in control.
So, now that you know what stresses you, it's time to move on to step 3.
Step 3 Ask yourself WHY those things that you listed stress you. This is a big key in the process. You may never have even thought of that. You might just be in a habitual, unconscious pattern, reacting to a particular situation. When X happens, you respond Y. When A happens, you respond B. And that's all it is. Stimulus then response. Stimulus then response over and over and over.
What you'll probably find is that there is a similar pattern in each of the scenarios you listed. It's that similar pattern that you need to discover because then you can do something about it.
When you ask yourself WHY, don't just accept the surface level answer. Go below it and keep asking why until the answer comes to you. What you will find at the core is that you probably have one or more of the following three things that are happening. Number one is that you have an undelivered communication to someone. Number two is that you have an expectation that has not been met. Number three is that you have an intention to do something and you could not do it for some reason.
A quick look at each one of them will give you more insight.
An undelivered communication can be stressful (if you allow it to be) because your thoughts are running around in your head over and over. The human mind can't stand to be incomplete and when those thoughts are running around in your head, you have no resolution, so you're constantly searching for an answer (an outlet) and there isn't one. So, the "pressure" builds and builds.
An expectation that has not been met can make you stressed. If you believe something should be a different way other than the way it is and you can't do anything about it, once again, your mind will try to look for an outlet, a resolution and when it can't find one, it becomes stressful.
It is the same with the third step. Having an intention that you want to do and for some reason you can't do it once again causes a problem because there is no outlet, no resolution.
The key is to find the resolution and sometimes just asking why you're stressed is enough to solve the problem in itself. You may, in some cases find out that it's not such a big deal after all. When you find out the reasons why things are stressful to you, move on to step
