At under 40 the HP Deskjet D2660 is a cheap, basic printer with no frills. It is notable for being the first printer from HP to be manufactured from 50% recycled materials.
The dimensions of the HP D2660 are 17.83 x 8.15 x 6.77 inches and it weighs just six pounds. Another unusual move by HP is that the printer is done completely in black with a small HP logo on the lid. It has a small, three button control panel located on the top left and the one-touch buttons consist of: power, resume and cancel for easy operation and it also has two ink level lights that alert users when the ink needs to be replaced.
The two HP Deskjet D2660 printer inkjet cartridges can be accessed through the pull down panel to the right of the control panel.| Two capacities of cartridge are available for the HP Deskjet D2660: the black HPCC640EE is rated at 200 pages and the HPCC641EE at 600 pages while the colour HPCC643EE will do up to 165 pages and the HPCC644EE is rated at 440 pages. Printing costs will be considerably lower if the high yield cartridges are used.
The D2660 has a paper tray at the front that will hold up to 80 sheets of paper and will also cope with other media such as envelopes and copy paper. The tray can be closed when not in use to reduce the amount of space it takes up. The power port and a USB 2.0 port are both located at the back. However please note the HP Deskjet D2660 does not come supplied with a USB cable.
The D2660 is simple and quick to get going but will not work in a network.
The printing speed of the HP Deskjet D2660 was impressive for a printer of this price beating other printers in its class including the Canon Pixma MX330 and the Canon Pixma IP2600.
The D2660 produced very impressive black and white and colour text prints in both standard and draft modes. In fact the quality of prints was comparable to much more expensive machines. Sadly photo prints were not as good. They weren't actually bad, just not as sharp or clear as they might have been.
For roughly 40 there is little to dislike about the HP Deskjet D2660. Photos were a little below par but other prints were excellent and it was quick and easy to use.
