My DV2000 originally came with Windows Vista as the operating system. Due to the difficulties I encountered using the DV2000 under Windows Vista; I opted to install Windows XP instead. The first step I usually take before actually formatting a computer is to make sure that there are drivers available for the operating system I am going to install. I went to the HP site where the drivers for my specific laptop model can be found. Upon reaching the site, I was surprised to find out that the only Windows XP drivers available for my laptop were the Wi-Fi adapter driver, driver for the quick launch buttons, LightScribe host software, Synaptics touchpad driver, help and support center and HP Software Update. I decided to go through with the installation of Windows XP because I figured that the HP Software Update will just download the other drivers for me. The installation of Windows XP completed without any problems and I proceeded to install the drivers and additional software after that. After I installed everything that I downloaded from the site, there were still items left in the Device Manager that needed additional drivers. I ran HP Software Update but all I saw was a white window with nothing written on it and no buttons to press. I loaded it a couple of times but it still yielded the same results. I even had to terminate it using task manager.
I did some research and discovered that the support page for the DV2000z contained compatible drivers for the DV2000. I downloaded the drivers and installed them. It worked like a charm. All the items in the other devices category under Device Manager were installed properly. I was glad I was able to install Windows XP and all devices properly but my concern is this, why do I have to go to all that trouble just to locate the complete and compatible drivers for my laptop model? I mean if there are complete drivers in the support page of the DV2000z model, then why can't they do the same for the support page of the DV2000? Technical support is very important. It is even as important as making a sale. Taking care of your customers ensures that they will come back for more.
