, a portable media player, or a powerful web browsing device, the HTC Desire should definitely be at the top of your shortlist. Featuring v2.1 of the Android OS with HTC Sense user interface, it offers up great styling as well as great everyday versatility.

The HTC Desire features a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which is capable of displaying up to 16M million colours within the confines of its 480x 800 pixel resolution. This comes with a pre-installed 4 GB memory card; however it can be replaced with a card of up to 32 GB offering the potential to store seemingly endless amounts of files and data.

In order to connect to the internet, the HTC Desire relies on 3G coverage and Wi-Fi. In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection takes care of internet access with speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps being available. Wi-Fi offers a faster connection by utilising local wireless networks where available. Additional network connectivity methods include GPRS and EDGE, whilst other hardware devices can be connected to thanks to Bluetooth and micro USB.

An effective 5 megapixel digital camera is installed on the handset, and does a great job of taking high quality still images, thanks to a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944. Included features of the camera are autofocus and an LED flash, both of which greatly help in taking quality imagers. Users also have the option to record video footage using the camera, thanks to the ability to record WVGA quality video at 15 frames per second.

The combination of the Android OS with HTC Sense UI and a powerful 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor means that the HTC Desire offers lightening fast response times on the touch screen, whilst demanding applications are run with ease. Entertainment features include a versatile media player, games and radio player, whilst social networkers are treated to FriendStream and a number of dedicated applications for FaceBook and Twitter.

All in all, the HTC Desire is sure to appeal to just about every type of mobile phone user, thanks to its extensive spec list, and the versatility of its operating system, not to mention its great aesthetics.
