HTC Offer Comprehensive Functionality In The Compact HD Mini by:Chris Westley

HTC are soon to release a compact new handset

, the HTC HD Mini. This touch screen Windows Mobile operated mobile offers a comprehensive spec list, with an impressive level of functionality for a handset of it's size.

To connect to cellular networks, the HD Mini initially relies on class 10 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. In areas covered by 3G, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps along with HSUPA at 2Mbps. A faster internet connection can be attained thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity, which kicks in when a signal is detected from a wireless internet router. Version 2.1 Bluetooth is installed as standard, offering a means to share files with friends. The handset can be connected to a computer thanks to the inclusion of a v2.0 micro USB port, so various tasks can be completed. Various applications function based on GPS with A-GPS support.

The 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen offers great quality display thanks to the ability to display up to 65,000 colours within 320x480 pixels. An accelerometer sensor allows the screen to be viewed in both landscape and portrait orientations, which is great for viewing video files. The touch screen navigation system offers an interactive user interface, which is indeed one of the manufacturers' strong points.

In order to alert users to incoming calls and messages, vibration works alongside ringing with the option to utilise MP3 and WAV ringtones. A 3.5mm audio jack and a speakerphone system offer options for hands free communication on the move.

High quality still images can be taken thanks to the inclusion of a 5MP digital camera which includes autofocus to simplify the task. As an alternative to still images, this can also shoot video.

A good deal of storage is included for saving data such as media files. Internally, 384MB RAM and 512 MB ROM is included. Should additional storage be required, a micro SD slot is included. This can accommodate a memory car of up to 16 GB, offering adequate storage which is sure to meet the needs of most users.

The operating system of choice is Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5.3, and coupled with a powerful 600MHz processor, demanding applications are handled with ease and ensure the user interface is fast and smooth. A versatile media player is included for playback of a range of music and video file formats. Other entertainment features include a stereo FM radio and a selection of games. Social networking fans are catered for with applications allowing direct access to sites such as FaceBook and Twitter.

As mentioned, the HTC HD Mini is a compact handset. It measures 103x57.7x11.7mm and weighs in at just 110 grams. As well as offering comprehensive functionality, it is also an aesthetically pleasing handset, with a sophisticated black colour scheme.
