This new phone, the HTC Salsa, will be launched with a view to capturing the social networking mobile phone market that this set to double in the next few years. Even though this phone will be primarily aimed at the social networking users, it still will be having quite a lot of features to be satisfying others as well. Also, because of the fact that it will be positioned in the mid-range smartphone segment, it is not expected to be priced out of many pockets.

The HTC Salsa will be having a touch screen display that will be measuring 3.4 inches in size. It is easily the finest touch screen display that has been used in a social networking phone. In fact, it is a social networking phone that will be coming close to the Nokia N8 in terms of the screen size. Also, the touch screen will also be having a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The screen will be capacitive and will be able to support the multi-touch actions.

The phone will be having a dedicated Facebook button (like the one used on the HTC ChaCha) just below the touch screen display, which can be used to instantly access the Facebook application. This phone will be having a number of social networking applications that will be catering to the sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. These are something that will be present in the phone as default and you need not be downloading any applications from the net in order to access them. The phone is expected to be running on the 2.4 version of the Android operating system, which will also be called as the gingerbread operating system. This operating system is expected to arrive in the markets within a few months and the HTC Salsa will be one of the first phones to be having this.

This phone will be having the 600 MHz processor in order to run the latest version of Android. It is astonishing considering that many manufacturers do not tend to offer the Android operating system in mobile phones that will be having low end processors. The reason for HTC to offer this operating system in the HTC Salsa will be the fact that it would be having lots of RAM, 512 MB of it to be precise. The 1520 mAh battery that is used in the phone will be able to support the various actions of the phones for quite a long time. Most of the manufacturers tend to give only the standby times of the phone since only they are the most impressive. However, HTC is claiming that the HTC Salsa will withstand seven hours of talk time.
