A hacksaw blade is a metal cutting tool used in industries

. The blade is designed with fine-tooth saw on the blade bound under tensions in wooden or metallic frame, with a pistol grip. Their sizes may differ as per the use and handling purpose. Blades are generally found to be in standardized lengths of 10 to 12 inches for standard hand hacksaw. Hacksaw blade for manual use is also of smaller lengths that may be about half the standard size. Powered hacksaws are built for machinery work. They are developed with larger dimensions so as to suit the purpose of the machine.

Design:

The pitch of the teeth can be anywhere from fourteen to thirty-two teeth per inch (tpi) for a hand blade, with as few as three tpi for a large power hacksaw blade. The teeth are arranged in a manner of wave to provide clearance when sawing. But the set changes may vary as per the utility of the blade from tooth to tooth smooth curve or rather alternate left and right set of teeth.

The Saw Blades are normally brittle as they are generally made from carbon steel (low alloy), which is relatively soft and flexible. From a comparatively long time, making of saw blades uses high speed steel for their teeth, that gives high tensile strength and improved cutting and tooth life. A softer form of high speed steel blade was also available, which wore well and resisted breakage, but was less stiff and so less accurate for precise sawing. This Hacksaw blade exhibit superior quality when used on tough materials and surfaces of varied condition. The saw blades withstand heavier feed pressure for faster, more precise cutting than other types of hacksaw blades. Whereas, blades that are made by using allot steel are a kind of all purpose blade, ideal for cutting soft metals, like aluminum, copper and mild steel. Their use has prominently grown today, as their prices have dropped to be comparable with the older blades.

Mechanism:

A power hacksaw (or electric hacksaw) is a type of hacksaw that is powered either by its own electrical motor or connected to stationery engine. Power hacksaw may or may not be stationery machines, they can be portable also. Stationery models are built with a mechanism that when the saw blades lifts up, on the return stroke some coolant is pumped in to prevent the saw blade from overheating.
