When there are several different communities that you are interested in, you need to make sure that you don't solely focus on the costs or rent. You should comprise a list of the different amenities that you can't live without, like, and can do without. Some considerations include a pool, fitness center, laundry facility on-site or very close by, community area for social gatherings, storage, a garage (nice in cold wintry climates), etc. You might also consider whether you want an apartment on the ground floor or upstairs with a balcony. Here are some other questions you should answer:

1) Parking in the community Are there reserved spaces? Do you have to pay extra for reserved parking? Is there adequate parking spaces or will you be searching for a space every night?

2) Office hours of the management office Are they fairly convenient for your needs?

3) After hours - Can you contact somebody late at night or on weekends if a problem arises?

4) Neighbors Is the apartment comprised of college students, working professionals, or retired folks? What type of neighbors do you want? These are some questions youll have to answer on your own because, due to Fair Housing Laws, the leasing staff is not allowed to comment about it.

5) Apartment Floor Plan The price may be right but does the layout and size meet your needs? Measure the largest piece of furniture you have, then when you visit the apartment bring your tape measure and make sure it will fit.

Remember, when it comes to comparing apartment communities, no two are alike. So cover all your bases and get any questions answered before committing.
