Hair Loss - Causes Of & Solutions To

Hair loss, which is when an individual starts to lose more than the average 70-140 hairs per day

, can be classified as being either localised and patchy, which is known as a small area, or diffuse where large areas of the scalp are affected. Either way, it can be devastating to both sexes. Interestingly though, there are various reasons as to why one starts to lose their hair. The most common cause of baldness in men is male pattern baldness, which is hereditary, although women can suffer from female pattern baldness where the hair can become thin all over the head. However, both men and women can lose their hair for other reasons including stress, illness or surgery but thankfully, in most of these cases, the hair does grow back eventually.

Hormonal problems can also often result in either a man or a woman losing their hair. For example, having either an over or under active thyroid gland can result in hair loss but this can, fortunately, be treated by correcting any hormonal imbalances with the right medication. Certain medications such as those used to treat high blood pressure, gout and heart disease can result in hair loss, as can birth control pills and anti-depressants. Infections can also result in hair loss, even in children but this can generally easily be treated with anti-fungal medication.

It is understood that hair loss could be the result of an underlying illness such as diabetes or lupus. It is therefore important that the individual discusses any abnormal hair fall with their doctor so as to hopefully rule out the possibility of a disease as well as, of course, to treat that disease should one be found.

Thankfully today there are many avenues one could go down to remedy their hair loss, whatever the cause may be. Hair replacement, for example, is becoming increasingly popular and quite rightly so due to some of the marvellous results that can be seen in both men and women. This is a non surgical procedure that is suitable for both males and females suffering from all types of hair loss and involves the adding of individual strands of hair, one by one, to the area in need of coverage. Alternatively one may consider a hair transplant where some hair is taken from a donor site (usually the back and/or sides of the head) and transplanted into areas where there is little or no hair growth. Both of these procedures can give incredibly natural results and bring back an immense feeling of confidence to an individual who has suffered from hair loss in the past.

Another measure a hair loss sufferer could consider is a wig. Today wigs are more natural looking than ever and they can be used to give a quick boost of confidence when needed or as part of an individual's everyday routine.

However, for those who want to control their hair loss without having to resort to surgery, wigs or any of the above then Light Laser Therapy, which stimulates the hair follicle and root and brings fresh blood and nutrients to them, thus encouraging hair growth, may well be of interest.

Last but certainly not least, there are a number of hair loss treatments on the market today worthy of consideration and these include Propecia, Trioxin and Minoxidil, which one can generally find available at leading hair care establishments where further advice on these products and their application can be obtained.
