Hair Rollers – Hot, Velcro & Steam Curlers Explained

Hair Rollers Hot, Velcro & Steam Curlers Explained

Steam Rollers: This type of curler uses moisture to lock in curls which is their largest benefit. As the steam cools, it evaporates, moisturizing the hair, leaving it shiny and static free. Steam rollers can be used on both natural and synthetic hair but is best for difficult to curl hair. They also can be used to give fine, limp hair additional volume. The curls from these sets actually last longer than traditional hot rollers making them one of my favorite options.

Hot Rollers: Hot Rollers use dry heat to create curls. Most hot rollers fit into an electric tray with a heating element and are relatively easy to use. Hot rollers are available in a variety of sizes, giving you the ability to create every degree of curl from little ringlets, to large bouncy curls, and even a soft wave. To use, warm and apply to your hair, then allow the rollers to cool completely before removing. Remember the hair needs to be totally dry when using Hot Rollers. For a firmer curl, try putting hot rollers in at night and sleep on them.

Velcro Rollers: This type of roller does not use heat to set the curl instead you mist each section with volumizing spray or apply a small amount of styling mousse before you roll each piece. Available in many sizes these rollers are very convenient because your hair sticks to them without the use of pins. In addition, if used correctly velcro rollers are very gentle and cause less damage than heated and steam types. To use, apply a styling product to a section of hair, place curler at the tip of the section and roll up the hair until the roller rests securely against your head. You can leave the curlers in anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. To speed up the process your can also blow dry your hair on medium heat for 5 minutes, then allow to cool completely before removing. When taking the Velcro rollers out be careful not to pull or rip them out. Be gentle and take your time.
