Toronto, Canada - GAO Tek Inc. (www.GAOTek.com) is offering its handheld fiber optic OTDR as an innovative test instrument for telecommunication networks. It is specially designed for fiber network construction and maintenance in FTTx, WAN and CATV systems. This optical time domain reflectometer can be used in both single mode (1310/1550 nm) and multi mode (850/1300 nm) fiber applications.

This portable handheld fiber optic OTDR, model C0250001, features a unique hot key design making it convenient and quick to conduct, review and analyze test results. It provides highly precise measurements and a large memory capacity of 300 test curves. The OTDR provides real time and average time test modes for technicians' different requirements. It tests the length of the optical cable or optical fiber, loss, attenuation coefficient between two points, insertion loss of the optical connector, and return loss of the fiber.

This fiber optic OTDR transfers test results to a computer for further analysis, reporting and printing via RS232 or USB port. It is complete with interchangeable adaptors (FC/SC/ST) for connection to different fiber types. It is equipped with LCD indicators for battery charging and LD lasing status indications and has a Ni-MH rechargeable battery for over 3.5 hours of continuous testing on a single charge. This OTDR is resistant to dust, moisture, and shock and is able to withstand drops from a height of 1 meter by test. In addition, PC software is also included for data review.

This handheld fiber optic OTDR belongs to GAO's family of OTDRs. Two other similar products are included in this line for detection of cable length, overall attenuation and break points. One is the Multi-Function Optical Time Domain Reflectometer which features a short event dead zone of 1.6 m, a high resolution of 0.025 m, 128 k sampling points, and a convenient visible fault location (VFL) function. Another is the Handheld Fiber Optic OTDR which provides quick auto measuring mode, average testing mode and blind zone testing mode.
