Hangers that Protect Your Clothes
There are many things that can happen to your clothing in a closet. Things can slip off the hanger and end up crumpled in the floor. The hanger can be too wide and stretch out the shoulders. The body may be flat and cause your suits to lose their shape. Cheaply put together wood can splinter or snap, tearing and snagging your clothes. Hardware can have sharp points that cause runs and tears. Metal can rust and ruin expensive clothing. Hangers are designed with specific uses in mind. Choosing the right ones can help you protect the investment that you've made in your wardrobe. Use these tips for choosing the ones that are right for you.
1) Protect your most expensive items first. This is generally your suits and coats. Suits have stiffeners and special fabrics in the shoulders to help them to keep their shape. However, if the hanger style doesn't compliment that shape, the weight of the suit will pull the shoulders down and permanently damage the coat. Choose a curved, sturdy hanger that is the same width as your suit coat. They are available in petite, regular, and extra large. Wide rounded shoulder supports are also great.
2) Pants are notorious for slipping, creasing, or getting crimped by bad clips. Choose hangers with a rubberized bar or a bar that locks shut to avoid slippage. If you prefer clips, make sure that you choose ones that are manufactured not to stain, rust, or snag clothing. The pad inside the clip is important. Some hangers even clamp down on each side of your pants with felt pads.
3) Hangers with notches in the shoulders are great for straps and security loops. Many women's clothes have small spaghetti straps and are made of soft, slippery fabrics. Tiny notches hold straps securely in place so that camisoles and other delicates do not slip off and end up in the floor.
4) Flat hangers save space in the closet. They fit closely together and are perfect for most of your tops and pants. Flat doesn't necessarily mean flimsy. Many are designed well nowadays and can hold up plenty of weight. Look for ones with a non-slip, velvet coating and they'll work for almost everything you own.
5) Wooden
hangers are a luxurious addition to any closet. Cedar hangers have many benefits, like deodorizing and repelling insects. There are also many specialty clothing hangers on the market that can help you to organize and save space. Cascading clothes hangers are great for coordinating outfits and fitting many items into the space of one hanger.
