Happy Birthday To The Doc Marten!

Dr. Martens were first marketed in April 1960 which makes the brand 50 years old

this year. The make are still very much loved by all ages, sizes and classes and fit comfortably into many a shoe wardrobe. Doc Martens come in a range of sandals and shoes but the 8 eyelet and 14 eyelet boot remains the most popular design.

Oxblood and black remain the classic Dr Marten colours although the new brighter colours and patterns are becoming a popular alternative. The shoes range from classic black dress shoes to more funky styles in pink and lime and are increasingly available along with the browns and blacks that are the basics of any shoe collection.

Doc Marten shoes and boots are quite masculine, and it's a challenge for girls to know what to wear with them to look good. Jeans are always good with a pair of Doctor Martens shoes, but this look can be a bit too masculine for some women. If you do want to wear jeans with your Docs, then choose a loose, baggy style rather than the skinny jeans that have been so popular this season. Combat trousers are a great choice that look great over a pair of Doc Marten boots or shoes. To lighten up the look, choose a pretty top or jumper for a nice contrast.

Don't rule out wearing a skirt or a dress with your Doc Martens. Docs can look good with long skirts, such as the gypsy style which was so popular last summer. Doc Martens are frequently seen paired with feminine, floaty dresses and skirts and the contrast between a feminine dress and chunky black Doc Marten shoes can look amazing.

So, if you don't own a pair of Docs, go for it. You may be surprised just how much you love them!
