Before going for any of them, make sure to read up on them so you are aware of what type of treatment you are offering to your water. In addition to reverse osmosis you can also find granulated carbon filters, alkaline water machines and various combinations systems that uses several filters instead of just one type.

Magnetic water conditioners

Using this method the water passes through a magnetic field which modifies the ions of the calcium and magnesium. This way they no longer cause scale. Technically it doesn't become softer, however the limescale that is usually created by these minerals is no longer deposited to that advanced degree. This can easily prolong the life shelf of any clothing that is washed in the treated liquid.

Mechanical water softeners

The advantage of using this procedure is that it is easily installed in the house plumbing. This removes any calcium and magnesium residues from the hard water on a regular basis. The installation can be easily done by a professional in his field. It is important to know though that you should never use it to water your lawns, gardens and plans as it contains quite a high amount of sodium which is damaging to them.
