Harmony Is Key

Typically when most think of a well ordered life, the word balance comes to mind. According to Wikipedia, balance is a state of equilibrium, all parts equal. I have come to understand, however, that all things can never be equal. Back in the fall of 2009, I was invited by a group of friends to attend a religious convention in different state. I was told that the benefits of attending this event would enrich me spiritually and strengthen my view of this earthly journey. I truly desire those things, but something was going on in my life at that time that needed my immediate attention, and I chose not to attend the convention. Needless to say I was admonished for my choice. The chastisements still ring loudly in my ear: How could you put God second? You are going to miss your blessing and Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven. Wow! My friends did not understand that I was launching a new phase of my business and it was critical that I met with the individuals who were placed in my life to help me make it happen. It had to go down that weekend ! In spite of the criticisms and phrases of guilt hurled at me, I stood my ground. Not long ago I heard a speaker compare an orchestra to life. The director and composer represent the person and the sections such as the woodwind, string, brass and percussion are like unto the several aspects of our lives. For instance, the woodwind section could represent our spirituality and the brass our finances When music is composed, all orchestra sections do not play equally throughout the musical piece. If all sections were to play equally, the composition would be harsh on the ears and the beauty and enjoyment of diversity of the instruments would be lost. A great example could be the string section plays loudly at first then recedes to the brass section and ends with the woodwind being dominant to create a musical master piece. In other words, though all sections are important, each takes precedence as necessary to the composer. And that example, my dear friends is a perfect metaphor of how life should flow. I did not abandon my spiritual needs by not attending the convention, I simply addressed an important aspect of my life (finances) while my spirituality served as the support of my circumstance it played softly yet harmoniously in the background. Yes, harmony is key.About the Author:
