Has The Akismet Spam Filter Killed Your Blog Commenting Efforts?
Has The Akismet Spam Filter Killed Your Blog Commenting Efforts
?
Let me explain what Akismet is.
Akismet is a spam filter that bloggers use to determine if a comment is spam or not. Akistmet is a nice product but it has it flaws, all to often, it marks legitimate comments as spam.
There are certain characteristics that spammers have, if you are banned, then you have probably posted comments in a manner that looks like a spammer.
Spammers typically post comments to tons of sites very fast. Akismet watches you IP address and also the URL in your comment to determine the frequency you are posting.
Even though your comments are legitimate and contribute to the conversation, Askismet will still ban you if you post too many comments, on too many sites, in a short time span.
Akismet exists because of spammers, spammers ruin it for everyone.
To check to see if your website URL and/or IP address has been marked as a spammer in the Akismet database, go to any Wordpress style blog and try leaving a comment.
If after clicking submit you are taken to a blank page, a page that says something about your comment being rejected or it looks as if nothing happened (You don't see you comment waiting for moderation on the site), you have probably been banned.
If you are banned, Askimet will either delete your comments altogether or put your comments in the bloggers spam folder. Either way, the time you spent to leave your well thought out comment is wasted because bloggers rarely check their spam comments folder.
Not all blogs use Akismet, but you can't tell until you try to put the comment there. This causes a lot of wasted time because about 80% of the Wordpress style blogs do use Akismet.
So if you are banned, what do you do?
Some people say "send Aksimet an email and ask them to unblock your IP address and website". This has never worked for me, or anyone I know, so I am going to say it's not a viable option.
You can get a different IP address from your internet provider and a new domain, but that will undo all the backlinking efforts you have already done.
The only real option I can suggest is use a service called Hired Links.
Hired Link is a place where bloggers can register their blogs, and advertisers can buy backlinks.
When you buy the backlinks, Hired Links will pay the blogger to accept your comment. This ensures that the comments you pay for, are actually accepted by the blogger.
Even if Akismet places the comment in the bloggers spam folder, Hired Links will email the blogger telling them to check the spam folder for the comment.
If the blogger accepts the comment, Hired Links pays the blogger.
Visit the Hired Links website here.
Happy Backlinking.
