Hatchbacks - The Tardis Of The Car World

Although it seems that everything in the world is gearing itself to becoming smaller

, we still find ourselves needing increasing amounts of storage throughout our day to day lives. Whether it's a DVD player that's less than an inch thick or a laptop computer which will quite happily fit into a side pocket of a decent sized bag, everything's becoming smaller, but for many of us that simply means that we're carrying more items with us, and our cars are no exception.

Unfortunately, this has lead to more and more people purchasing enormous 4x4s and SUVs and utilising their internal space poorly. As well as taking up a ridiculous amount of road space, they are also bad for the environment and make city driving an increasingly aggravating experience. There is an alternative, however.

If they are loaded correctly, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that a hatchback car such as a Honda Civic, Suzuki Swift or Hyundai i10 would not offer more than enough storage for most applications, even up to a family holiday. That's not to say that drivers need to be experts on Tetris just for the sake of a smaller car, but the correct utilisation of the available space means that there should be more than enough available storage, easily competitive with many of the SUVs on the market.

A Honda Civic, Nissan Almera or Cherolet Metro is far more economical to run than a larger vehicle - sometimes using just half as much fuel as the popular SUVs - saving you money on both the initial purchase and also the running costs. They are also much better suited for urban driving than a larger car as they take up less space on the road.

Driving a Honda Civic, MINI or Suzuki Swift through a city street is a much easier proposition for most of us rather than an SUV or other large vehicle. With the increasing amounts of cars on our roads, we often find ourselves driving down streets which have parked cars on both sides; this limits the available space for our cars and can greatly slow our progress. However, in a Nissan Almera, Honda Civic, or MINI, many drivers find themselves able to move through these kinds of roads much freer, saving them time on their journeys and limiting the stress of city driving.

Available for a much more modest price than a larger vehicle, a Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Metro, Honda Civic or similar vehicle is the ideal way to save space on the roads and money on fuel while still having enough storage space for almost everything you are likely to need to take with you.
