Have you had it with Mondays? For that matter
, have you had it (substitute your own day) of the week. Ill pick on Monday because it resonates well with the working class. The day after Sunday always strong-arms the unwilling back onto the nations roadways with a vengeance. It so happened on this special day, not too long ago, that the image staring back at me made me cringe. As my tired eyes refocused on the scruffy image, I felt my stomach twinge. It was hunger, but not the kind that is satisfied with calories. I thought, how many more of these must I endure? What I was feeling was not a temporary, wait-till-my-coffee kicks in, and fake it till you make it Monday blues. This experience was all too real. It was the culmination of too many years spent working for someone else and marching to their drum. My mind numb and my feet tired, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I had finally had itsometimes you have to burn down the forest to get new growth. With the proverbial sharks circling the lifeboat (job), I did the unthinkableI jumped overboard and swam for my life.
Life on the beach is marvelous, sexy and full of new perspective. Walking away from your only income source with no income on the horizon can be described as selfish, dumb and crazy. Most would agree it wasnt my finest hour. However, it was during this time that I began to ask better questions of myself. As I later found, the better questions I asked, the more quality answers I received.
There was no turning back, burning my ship to the ground, I looked to the horizon. No more hiding my head in the sand. No more blaming others. No more grasping at straws. It is said that nearly 97% of entrepreneurial efforts fail. Failure is not an option. I would not fail. I researched, discovered, implemented and found my nirvana. I found my answers and that leads me to quote by Jessie Rittenhouse:
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have paid!
I didnt wait for my ship to come in. I swam out to meet it. This took guts, but the rewards are so much sweeter now. Thats what Im trying to tell you. It takes guts to turn around and walk away from it all. Many will try work from home activities. Most will drop out and go back to the security of their employer. They will get back in line with everyone else. And they will resign themselves to a quiet life of desperation. I am asking you to leave your fellow workers in coach and join me in First-Class. The service up front is reserved for those passengers who have guts, took action and never look back. It is uncivilized back in economy class. If you really look at this analogy using the airline class of service, you will find it very relative to your life.
Right now you are part of the 97% of workers stuck in economy class. Its noisy, with a lot of complaining, and everyone is lined up by number, doing what theyre told and barely getting by. It is a very uncomfortable journey. However, as time goes by, you become numb to the whole situation and endure the ridewith all the turbulence.
Up front are the business owners. Hot towels, civilized seating, comfort, class and prestige. You dont wait in line, youre treated with respect. Youre a risk taker, youve paid your dues and are reaping the benefits of success. And guess what, the people surrounding you are successful just like you. Success breeds success. And if the journey becomes bumpy, you are comfortable among your new friends, laughing as you enjoy the ride.
