Urban disasters are normally you weather related events like hurricanes
, floods, snow storms, and others. These tend to disrupt normal day to day life because they shut off supply lines or displace people. For the average person these cause severe difficulty because there is no preparation for it. Getting prepared is not a difficult task.
The first thing that is needed is food. For many they only have maybe a week's worth food at home at any one time. It's important to have at least a good 30 day supply at home. While this might seem like quite a bit, it's easy to do as you double up on normal grocery items at home and building up a supply.
Water is also important. It's hard to store water, but it's easy to get water purification devices. Keep a device that can purify at least 500 gallons of water on hand. This extra water can be found and purified from stored tap water, rain barrel water.
Be sure to have normal survival items at home that you might need. Your heat might not be on so have extra blankets. Be sure to have additional medicines and first aid for those situations as the stores and pharmacies might not be open. Look at ways of being able to cook without having electricity or any other connected services.
Boredom will become a huge factor because there won't be much to do. Have things like board games or books you haven't read on hand just in case you need them to keep yourself entertained. Have some activities for the kids as well.
Make sure you start getting your supplies together today. It's best to start right now than wait till the last minute. Quite a few of these items will be purchased eventually. Buying them now is better than later.
