According to the history, I found wigs are not a modern invention which almost has 6,000 years history. Egyptians may the group of people who first use wigs. In the ancient Egypt, people use wigs to protect their shaved heads from the sun. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the use of wigs was out of mode, but it had reached the height of popularity in Europe again since the 16th century. At that time, majority of wigs wearers were male especially some royal families and feudal nobles. In the 17th century, wigs were brought by some British settlers to America. If a man had a high social status, he would wear wig up to show his position. This tradition ended up until the time of the American Revolution.

So the wig has a very long history. Today people wear it for many reasons. The first may because of hair loss, especially some medical cause. Some people wear wigs to cover up baldness. And others do it just for their fashion purposes as they can have different hair style everyday.

In addition, there are four kinds of wigs classified by materials: natural human hair, synthetic hair, animal hair and a combination of all three. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Human hair wigs are superior for realism, but they are very expensive. Compared to the human hair wigs, animal hair wigs are cheaper and more people can afford it. If you can not distinguish those kinds of wigs, you can burn them. Synthetic hair will burn very quickly and will leave behind tiny hard beads that you can feel with your fingers. Synthetic hair wigs look as natural human hair but they are hard to color or curl with an iron.

In summary, if you are interested in hair wigs and want to change your appearance, you can buy a wig and have a try.
