It's that old frustrating story again - diet after diet and one type of exercise

program followed by another, but the numbers on the bathroom scale are not budging. We all know fad or 'get thin quick' diets do not work, but we continue to try them anyway as they offer the lure of a quick-fix solution to a long-term problem.

When this happens repeatedly people either do not lose the weight they need too or if they manage to lose some it comes right back on with even some extra pounds to boot.

This eventually negatively affects your metabolism (your body's engine) making it become almost impossible to lose weight. So this stays on your body spoiling your appearance, draining your self confidence and endangering your health.

To be able to lose that weight for good along with long-term weight management the metabolism needs to be re-booted and hormones bought back into balance. Your body has to go through a healing process so it can repair the damage from 'yo-yo' dieting and on and off exercising.


This can take a period of time - weeks, months or even years depending on how badly damaged your metabolic motor is. So you need to change your mindset from losing weight to rebuilding health. When your 'metabolic fitness' has been restored your hormones will be in balance, your body composition (muscle/fat ratio) will be ideal and your health will be at an optimum level.

For weight loss to be successful you have to get healthy first. You need your appetite and food processing hormones to be in balance so fat can be efficiently burned from your body and energy extracted from the food you eat. When hormones are fluctuating wildly you will experience intense food cravings which make it near impossible to eat less food than you are burning.

While this re-balancing is taking place fat weight may not be lost, but be patient as it will happen. Small meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day are the ticket. Make sure each one has at least 20 grams of protein and the balance made up of as many raw and cooked vegetables as you can fit in.


The other factor that will make this transition period faster is to get stuck into a proper strength training program to tone up and rebuild lost muscle tissue. Fuel (calories) are burnt within the muscle cells so the more toned healthy firm muscle tissue you have the more calories you will be burning both day and night.

Keep in mind that no other type of activity but proper strength training exercise will restore your muscle tissue so do not replace this type of exercise with any other low intensity long duration activity as you will be very disappointed in your results.

The last thing you need to do to accelerate metabolism repair is to get rid of as many processed foods as possible that you may be eating. Replace them with natural foods that you cook from scratch. The chemicals used in food preparation and storage are bad news if weight loss is your goal. Do yourself and your health a favor, ditch them and watch your strong slim healthy body be returned to you.
