Hazard Communication Translates To Safety.

Hazard Communication is the right of the employee to know what chemical they are

working with and how to safely interact with the chemical while they perform their job function. Hazard Communication has most recently revised the labeling system required so different companies are consistently labeling the same chemical in the same way.

Chemicals on the old system could be labeled in different ways by different manufacturers. The end result was the employee would see different labels for the same chemical, and not be entirely sure how to interact with the chemical safely. The new system takes out the inconsistency and mandates a uniform way for the manufacturers of the chemicals to label the containers. Also Material Safety Data Sheets have had a slight revision in the mandate to have sections appear in the same order, so information can be located quickly.

The changes translate into a safer working environment for all employees. A higher level of safety reduces injuries and illnesses on the job, which can impact a companys bottom line an additional reward. Everybody involved wins.

The chemical is labeled and tracked through each phase of its creation, utilization, and storage once used. The different employees that work with the chemical can use the uniformity in labeling to know exactly what needs to be done during their interaction with the chemical. The interactions can be very different for someone transporting the chemical and another utilizing the chemical in the creation of an industrial product; however the information is consistently delivered so each can safely perform their role.

Companies continue to look for more efficient ways to perform their role to cut cost and increase production efficiency. Hazard Communication is the next step in the process. Hazard Communication revolves around safety for the employee, but translates to a higher competency for each employee, and a more productive work force.
