Heal Herpes Sores - Dealing with Herpes Blisters and Rashes

There's tons and tons of information out there on herpes

, and most of it is about prevention. While this is all well and good (herpes is a very common sexually transmitted disease, and the numbers don't seem to be going down) for those of us already suffering from genital herpes, it can be frustrating trying to find good information on dealing with the disease we've already contracted.

The most common request I've heard from herpes sufferers is methods on how to better heal herpes sores to make outbreaks less painful and uncomfortable, and over with more quickly. Besides your obvious anti-viral treatment, I'll list down a few of the methods I've learned while looking into how to clear up herpes sores and get outbreaks over with quickly and with as little discomfort as possible.

Herpes outbreaks generally occur during a period when the immune system is weakened, and it's the immune system that's going to help fight off the outbreak symptoms once they've arrived. With this in mind, your first priority should be getting the immune system back up to speed once the outbreak has arrived. Vitamin B Complex, garlic and Echinacea I've found are very good at boosting and revamping the immune system, so start dosing these as soon as you feel an outbreak coming on (that dreaded 'tingling' feeling is my cue to start).

Irritation of the sores makes them stay around for longer, prolongs the healing process, and adds pain, itching and general discomfort to the outbreak period. Use tea tree oil or lemon balm as a topical treatment directly on the affected area to clean and help heal herpes sores. A cup of Epsom salt in a warm bath also helps heal and is wonderfully soothing, and cold compresses can help reduce irritation too. Wearing loose fitting, breathable (i.e. cotton) underwear will also stop rubbing on the blisters and help heal herpes sores faster.
