The research involved several hundred female students who were supposed to record information about their menstrual cycle and sexual activity. Research has shown that women with regular weekly sexual intercourse had significantly higher estrogen levels than those whose relations are sporadic or non-existent. The benefits of estrogen are multiple: a healthier cardiovascular system, lower cholesterol, increased bone density, less wrinkled skin.
During sex, calories are burnt. According to estimates of Dr. Alfred Frangera (Medical College of Wisconsin), sex is burning at least 4.2 kilo-calories per minute (while playing tennis, burning is an average of 4 kilo-calories per minute for women of 54 kg).
Sex strengthens pelvic muscles. These muscles are important for an upright posture, flat back and belly.
Sex reliefs menstrual problems. For many women, sex during menstruation is necessary and good. Many women reported that after an orgasm during menstruation spasmodic pains reliefs that normally they feel during this period.
