Health & Safety Practices In The Work Place
Health & Safety Practices In The Work Place
The work place is somewhere where you should really feel safe. The pressure is on in a lot of firms these days though. More and more workers are expected to be more productive simply because the economic climate is putting more stress on businesses. When more pressure is put on employees, generally more is expected in the same amount of time.
Something that tends to get over looked when this takes place is that health and safety starts to take a back seat. Simple things such as ensuring walk ways are clear are no longer a priority and instead, productivity is king! Workers need to take a step back and ensure that they are really doing their best to ensure the work place is safe.
#1 Washing Hands
Simple things like washing your hands might not seem like a priority, but they should be. Even if you are not working with food, plenty of germs can be passed through the work place. By washing your hands a few times a day you are reducing the chance of picking up or passing germs and reducing your chances of getting an illness because of this.
#2 Taking Breaks
Just because your work load has magically increased does not mean that you should not take breaks throughout the day. If you are allowed to have a break, then make sure that you take it. It is the employers' responsibility to ensure there is enough staff to handle the work load not yours. Taking regular breaks will ensure that you are focused and will increase your productivity rates and reduce the likelihood of silly accidents happening.
#3 Keeping Tidy
Spend a few minutes keeping tidy. A tidy work place is not just a better one to work in, but it is also good to ensure that no accidents happen. If you are blocking walkways with boxes or papers, then get them moved as soon as possible. You might know that they are there, but someone else might not! If they trip and fall, you have caused an accident that could have easily been prevented!
Conclusion
Whilst it might seem that you have less time to get the job done, you should still be considering health and safety on a daily basis. Try and spend a few minutes a day ensuring that your work place is a safe one to work in. It will not just be you that benefits, but people that are working alongside you as well, so it is worthwhile.
