Healthy Eating Is Not About Nutrition Labels

What we believe to be a healthy diet is not necessarily what is good for our bodies

. Most diets focus on such a cut in calorie intake that your body actually goes into starvation mode.

What this means is that your body begins to store everything you eat because it thinks it will be a long time before it gets more fuel. This, as I'm sure you can imagine, will do quite the opposite of helping you lose weight. Yes, in actuality, it will cause you to gain weight - over time of course.

Rather than wasting your time reading nutritional labels and counting calories, focus on the basic foods; foods that have been around for thousands of years. First off, focusing too much on calorie intake and what is in your food can be very discouraging.

You can count all day long, but when you don't see the weight coming off, people get discouraged and look for alternative solutions. The best solution is to look at all the foods that are grown or harvested. These are the foods that your body needs to thrive.

This is not to say that calories are not important, because they are. In order to lose weight you must burn more than you intake - this is a given. But, if you stick with the natural foods you will automatically consume fewer calories and they will provide your body with the fuel it needs for energy.

This, in turn, gives you more energy to naturally burn more calories. Additionally, this energy and fuel will automatically boost your metabolism, also helping you to burn more calories.

On top of eating the right foods, you need to focus on portion size and the number of times you eat in a given 24 hour period. First off, 3 meals a day is fine, but 5-6 is much better.

Eating smaller portions more frequently helps your body to constantly stay on alert and will leave you feeling much more satisfied. Portion size is also crucial as today's society has no idea what a true portion is. Typically a portion is only a cup, give or take depending on the food you are consuming, but is a good rule of thumb.

Fill your plate with proper portions of good carbohydrates, proteins, and lean fats and you will be well on your way to the body you have been looking for. Even if you are not looking to lose weight, but are simply looking for a healthy balanced diet, this is the way to go.

Here is the best thing about eating in this manner. If you stick to this 80% of the time, you can eat your favorite foods or snacks the other 20%. As long as you don't overdo it, you will be a more energetic, satisfied you in no time at all.
