2. Get the junk out. Take control of your surroundings. Throw out the junk in your house and stay away from restaurants that tend to side with higher calorie fast foods. Stock your kitchen with healthier snacks and meals. If you are going to a party or out to eat with friends, try to drink plenty of water and eat a healthy light snack before you go. This will give you a better chance of not overeating or eating junk foods while you are out.

3. Walk more. When you go shopping or go to work, park farther from the door and take more steps getting to your destination. When possible, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Start to make it a habit to take a daily walk. If nothing else, walk in place when you watch TV commercials. At least this will give you about 5 - 15 minutes of exercise each hour, which is one of the healthy ways to lose weight and watch TV.

4. Eat more protein. Add in lean or low fat protein to your meals and snacks. This will keep you feeling fuller and make you less likely to overeat. Some great protein foods are low-fat peanut butter, small portions of unsalted or low sodium nuts, eggs, beans or lentils and low-fat low-sugar yogurt. It is better to eat small frequent meals which helps keep your blood sugar levels steady.

5. Substitute low-fat, low-sugar foods. Whenever possible use low-fat, low-sugar versions of mayonnaise, salad dressings, dairy products and ice cream or snacks. Some great substitutes are using salsa or hummus as dips, mustard instead of mayonnaise, sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes, balsamic vinegar for salad dressing and skim or 1% - 2% fat milk for whole milk.
