In the summer the process is reversed where the loop draws the heat from inside the house, it is absorbed into the Earth, thus cooling the home much like that of a refrigerator.

In-floor heating is also used today by homeowners. There are different types of in-floor heating that are installed on top of sub flooring or on top of concrete flooring. One type consists of dense composite boards covered with aluminum that allows heat to spread evenly and quickly throughout the floor of a home. There is also a type of in-floor heating where heat tubes are placed at intervals throughout grooves in treated boards. The boards are specially treated to use on top of concrete as long as there is no accumulation of moisture. Radiant electric heat consists of electric heat cables installed on specially treated flooring and is said to be reliable and safe.

Heating and cooling costs are very high right now and homeowners are looking for ways to lower their energy bills. Keeping air filters changed on a regular basis helps keeps costs down as does proper maintenance of the A/C unit or furnace.
