This base can be sealed for extra protection. The sealant protects against pinched wires, multiple shoulder joints and hot plug power connections, all due to corrosion from improper sealing. A typical power cable, molded into the whip, will consist of a two conductor, 20 AWG, 19 x 32 strand, triple-coated thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) insulation. This insulation can tolerate temperatures of -103 F.
