Heavy Duty Warning Whips in mining
The visibility of a truck or other vehicle in the mining industry can be increased exponentially if it has a heavy duty warning whip mounted on its back end or cab top. With the many vehicles coming and going from either an above ground or below ground mine, visibility is critical to keeping track of where a particular truck may be. In addition, the variability of flags, lights and lengths of the whips can distinguish one service machine from another.
Why Go with Heavy Duty Warning Whips
Almost any mining facility will have rocky ground to cover. The bumps and cracks in the road will determine just how much jostling a safety whip will endure, and the more rough the territory, the more important that it is to have a whip that can handle it. A flexible fiberglass whip can tolerate the ups and downs of the road without breakage, and can even be attached to the vehicle with a heavy duty spring mount that can be knocked around as needed. The spring mount allows much faster speeds to be traveled by the mining truck. The fiberglass material can even be cut down to size, sanded and then replaced if it becomes worn at the bottom.
The power cord that runs through the warning whip is protected by two part polyurethane and enamel paint finish that can protect the fiberglass from deterioration. The potential for fiber bloom and exposed fiberglass slivers is worth the extra coating found on such heavy duty whips. When a warning whip is a lighted version, it's especially important to have this protection to ensure high quality, continuous light.
The mounting base for the heavy duty warning whip is of durable construction as well, with the power running through a strong hex base with screw on ease of installation. This base can be sealed for extra protection. The sealant protects against pinched wires, multiple shoulder joints and hot plug power connections, all due to corrosion from improper sealing. A typical power cable, molded into the whip, will consist of a two conductor, 20 AWG, 19 x 32 strand, triple-coated thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) insulation. This insulation can tolerate temperatures of -103 F.
Options on Warning Whips
Whether you prefer a custom logo flag or a basic color with or without a reflective cross on it, varying flags can identify transportation, fuel or load trucks with ease. In addition, the length of the whip and different colored light bulbs and sizes and shapes of lens caps are available to choose from.
Seeing and keeping track of mining vehicles is an important safety factor in mining, and using heavy duty warning whips is one way to assure this is happening.
