Helicopter Couriers And What They Do

While it is certainly true that most deliveries are made by vehicles with four wheels

, delivery services do occasionally need to employ other modes of transportation in order to provide their customers with the best possible service. The one thing which they often do is use helicopters to make emergency deliveries. There are stand alone helicopter courier companies, and also some companies which don't have helicopters, but who work with sub-contracted helicopter pilots to make deliveries as required.

Helicopter delivery is useful when no other method of delivery is going to prove fast enough. It has a number of advantages over the other ways which goods can be moved which has made it popular within the industry. Speed, flexibility in space, and flexibility in time are all reasons why helicopters are so important to the delivery industry.

A helicopter courier can cover ground much quicker than a land based vehicle. While certain not as fast and lacking the range of an airline, a Helicopter has the advantage of being able to travel faster than land based vehicles without any traffic or obstacles to contend with, ultimately resulting in a much faster delivery time. This makes them perfect for high speed deliveries where time is absolutely critical, such as when delivering parts after a breakdown, or when delivering emergency medical supplies.

The next great thing about a helicopter is that they can take off and land many places which are extremely convenient. For instance, many hospitals in larger cities now maintain helicopter landing facilities right on site so that patients and critical shipments can be brought in or out as needed. Even certain large corporations maintain private helipads for their helicopter needs. This means no contending with the delays associated with land based delivery, and no time wasted driving goods to the airport for delivery.

Finally, helicopter deliveries can provide customers with immediate service. When a courier tries to ship something with an airline, they have to stick to the available schedules which are posted by the airline. This isn't a restriction which exists in the helicopter industry.

Helicopter couriers aren't just used to make fast deliveries; they are also used to make deliveries to locations which are not reachable through other types of transportation. In the most extreme locations on earth, often the only practical access is by helicopter. Deliveries made to off shore oil platforms are often made by helicopters when boat delivery is judged too slow.
