Hell In The Er And What You Need To Know To Survive

. While the ER might be your first step on the road to recovery it can also be dangerous place to be treated and work. Because anyone can walk through that door, and not be denied treatment anyone can be sitting next to you in the waiting room. While there are dangers you should never be put off from getting qualified medical help, but just because you're in a hospital it doesn't mean you're safe.

If you every get the chance to talk to an ER staffer especially those who work third shift you will hear all kinds of wild stories. You will hear about a nurse being stabbed after simply asking a woman if she had an insurance card, and about prisoners regularly being brought in for treatment after fighting with police. Illegal aliens regularly fill the ER receiving treatment for free, and some have gang affiliations. Barroom fights continue when both parties meet up again, and more than a few drunks are less than corporative with the staff. All this is going on and there is never enough security and police officers to deal with it all.

You seldom find yourself going to the ER under favorable circumstance, but you have to try and make the best of a bad situation. Often times staff members are overwhelmed by their workloads and though it might not seem like it they do care and every patient is important. That being said you need to be an advocate for yourself or your loved one, and stay on top of the situation. Keep a careful watch and plan out escape routes, and find out how to contact security. Make sure to secure all your valuables and if possible make sure they go home with someone you trust. Your there to get better, but that doesn't mean some people don't have other plans.

Now if you're a medical professional you know things can be dangerous, so you already know to be watchful of things that are out of the ordinary. If someone comes in and they're a victim of domestic violence you know to be supportive and to let them know they can get help, but be watchful incase their less than loving spouse makes an appearance. If people have been fighting, and both arrive do what you can to keep them and their friends and families apart. Also when dealing with prisoners no matter how nice and well behaved they might be don't ever let your guard down, because they will manipulate the situation for their advantage. You might just want to do your work and go home after your shift, but you need to keep safety in mind too, so find a good self defense training system.
