Help Get Motivated To Exercise

I am not unusual in that I find it can be difficult to get motivated to exercise

. I'm not a gym bunny, I'm not a jogger and do not pretend to be particularly athletic or sporty.

Over the years I have found that attempts to get into a gym routine have never lasted for a particularly prolonged period of time. I have to confess to a lack of motivation and enthusiasm when it comes to visiting the gym. And as for jogging, my attempts at that are not even worth mentioning.

This does not mean that I haven't found a way to get motivated to exercise. I probably get more exercise than the average person and I am totally motivated to do this because I exercise in a way that I do not think of as compulsory exercise. I do a lot of walking, totally by accident, as my passion is golf.

I love golf. I play five times a week, weather and circumstances permitting. Therefore I walk for four hours a day, five times a week. I am totally motivated and I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. I don't try to exercise just for the sake of exercise. I dont put time aside to exercise. I just do it without trying. Not only that, because I love my golf so much, I also have a keen interest in building muscle strength and maintaining flexibility.

Thus, even as a self-confessed anti-gym person, I am now keen to run off to the gym to achieve a fitness and strength level that will support my passion for golf. I have completely changed from being totally uninterested in "exercise" to looking forward to it and feeling motivated to exercise.

And this is the key to motivation. Motivation is a feeling, a sense of enthusiasm or willingness to do something. Unless you can see and feel the benefits of exercise and have fun exercising you will not be motivated. The key to successful motivation is to find something that you love, to do things that you enjoy and to build them into your lifestyle. This is vastly different from seeing exercise as something you have to make time for and distracting you from other things you would prefer to be doing.

Think back to when you were a child. You were probably on the go all of the time, doing things, trying things, being inquisitive. The worst fate that befell you was when you got grounded and sent to your room! That inquisitiveness led to exercise by accident. It was a normal and natural way in which to exercise.

We human beings actually have a natural desire to move and stretch our limbs, and also our minds. The two are actually linked. It has been shown that there is a natural increase in brainpower that is triggered when you exercise. Mind works upon body in just the same way as body works upon mind. Communication between mind and body is a two way process.

If you want to increase your motivation to exercise, then you will probably find that taking a mental step back and thinking about it from a different angle will help tremendously. Motivation is all about how you choose to think about something. Hypnosis might also be something you want to consider as it allows you to access your subconscious mind.

Your subconscious mind is where your instinctive and automatic thought and behavior patterns are stored. Thus with hypnosis you can access this store of information and make adjustments to your instinctive actions and reactions. You can make suggestions using hypnosis to increase motivation to exercise and look at it in a totally new way.
