Thus, responsible usage of this area is important to fire safety. Do not leave open fire unattended even for a few minutes. Avoid wearing clothes with long sleeves when cooking as such material can easily catch fire. Make sure to wear protective gear such as potholders, oven mitts and place dishcloth or counter towels nearby. However, do not place them very near the hot surfaces. If a small fire occurs, immediately remove food from the heat and/or unplug any appliance. Monitoring electrical wiring, devices and appliances Frequently check if there are any exposed wires.
