Probably the most important way of helping an aging dog is to help them maintain a proper weight. Overweight dogs have extra stress on their joints and therefore joint deterioration is accelerated. Cut out the table scraps and ensure he/she gets enough exercise. Moderate walks are a great way to keep your dog fit and in warmer climates swimming can also be a great way to keep dogs fit.

Lastly, dental hygiene is vitally important as dogs mouths are a breeding ground for bacteria and disease. Untreated, infection can spread throughout the body - so make sure you regularly clean your dogs teeth.
