Hemorrhoid Treatment - Simple Ways To Get Rid Of Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are the swelling and inflammation of veins inside the rectum and anus.
Over half the population will be afflicted with hemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Although, hemorrhoids can occur in people of all ages, they are most common in adults over 30.
There are two types of hemorrhoids, internal and external.
Internal hemorrhoids develop inside of the anus underneath the lining. They are usually painless and can be present for a long time without a person realizing they have them.
There are several ways to detect the presence of internal hemorrhoids. The most common is blood in the stool or on the toilet paper after a bowel movement. Other signs are the hemorrhoid protruding out of the anus during a bowel movement. When this happens, it can usually be pushed back in and causes little pain.
Internal hemorrhoids are usually pretty painless unless they prolapse completely. This means they cannot be placed back inside of the rectum. This is a painful condition that will require medical attention.
External hemorrhoids develop under the skin around the anus. They appear as small lumps that usually cause irritation and itching in the area. If the hemorrhoid develops a blood clot within, it becomes very painful. This is called an external thrombosed hemorrhoid. As painful as it is, it will subside on its own with time. Medical treatment is not a necessity but if the pain is unbearable you can elect to have the thrombosis surgically removed.
The major cause of hemorrhoids is believed to be the straining associated with constipation.
Other things that may cause hemorrhoids are, sitting on the toilet for long periods of time, pregnancy, age, being overweight and lifting heavy objects.
