Hemorrhoids - Internal And External
There are two basic types of hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids
. No matter what type you are suffering form, hemorrhoids can be a real pain in the butt and their symptoms are not something that can just be ignored.
The term hemorrhoids refer to a condition in which the veins located around the anus or rectum become inflamed and swollen. There are several different groups of veins that surround anus and rectum. One such group is known as the internal hemorrhoidal veins and the others are known as the external hemorrhoidal veins.
Internal hemorrhoids affect the internal hemorrhoid veins. Internal hemorrhoids occur when there is increased pressure within the internal hemorrhoidal veins. Many factors can contribute to the increased pressure of the internal hemorrhoidal veins. Some of these factors include:
* Excessive straining during bowel movements due to constipation
* Low fiber, high fat diets
* Pregnancy
* Heavy lifting
* Being overweight
* Chronic diarrhea or constipation
The most common symptom of internal Hemorrhoids is bright red blood on the stool or on the toilet paper. Other symptoms may include mild anal discomfort and a feeling of fullness after a bowel movement. Pain is not generally a symptom of internal hemorrhoids although every now and then an internal hemorrhoid may protrude through the anus and become irritated.
External hemorrhoids are caused when there is an increased pressure within the external hemorrhoidal veins. The factors that contribute to external hemorrhoids are the same as with internal hemorrhoids. However, the symptoms can more severe. Unlike internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids can be quite painful and extremely uncomfortable.
External hemorrhoid symptoms may include anal itching, bleeding, and pain. Depending upon the severity of the hemorrhoids, these symptoms can be mild or moderate to severe.
For those that suffer from hemorrhoids, whether internal or external, there are a variety of methods you can try to alleviate the symptoms. Over the counter ointments, creams and suppositories can help as well as adding more fiber to your diet and drinking more water. Whatever you do, do not ignore the symptoms. Stop the pain and suffering and get your life back by finding a method of treatment that will work for you.
