Hemorrhoids are a common problem that occurs in the anus and the rectum

The questions will be related to the current symptoms you are experiencing, current medical conditions you may have such as constipation or diarrhea and current medications you are taking.

For conclusively diagnosing hemorrhoids, a physical exam will be given. During this exam, your doctor will examine your anal and rectal area for signs of external hemorrhoids. He will also do a rectal exam to feel for internal hemorrhoids which are a cause of rectal bleeding.

Once the doctor has examined you and determined that you do have hemorrhoids, he will then prescribe the best treatment for you depending upon the severity of your case. Hemorrhoid treatments may include the following:

* Ointments or creams for itching and burning

* Suppositories

* Increasing fiber in diet

* Increasing water intake
