Henry Ford: A Brief Biography

More than any other man, Henry Ford may have had the largest single hand in changing the history of the United States of America

. Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson sure, these guys may have laid the cornerstone of a great nation, but Ford almost single handedly gave rise to an industrial revolution of literally epic proportions.

Ford got his start as an engineer underneath the Edison Illuminating Company where he became a lead engineer two years later. His promotion gave him more time and energy to work on gasoline engines and generators in order to make them mobile. After three years of work he came up with the Ford Quadricycle granted the name needed some work, along with the mechanics and the automobile had started to evolve from its Neanderthal roots.

Roughly ten to twelve years after the quadricyle, the Model T was introduced to the public. An incredibly efficient and simply machine, the Model T shaped what cars would look like even in todays world. A steering wheel on the left hand side, enclosed engine, spring suspension, a four cylinder engine, and the Model T was cheap at only eight hundred and twenty five dollars at its introduction and lowered prices throughout its production.

These lowered prices were in part due to H. F.s biggest and best invention and, or, gift to the world, production line assembly. Before Ford, products were made individually, with every part and piece being custom made. This made buying new products extremely expensive as the man hours needed to make new items was very high. Labor wages were one of the largest factors in an items price but production line assembly brought that cost way down.

While he may have been trained as an engineer, Ford was also a brilliant businessman. Rather than build every piece for the Model T on site, Henry shopped out the pieces to other producers and merely assembled them at the plant. The Model Ts were no longer custom, every piece was identical which made assembling them very easy. Craftsmen were no longer needed, and anybody could be trained to put the pieces together.

Assembly increased dramatically and H.F. could push out thousands of vehicles a year.

The assembly line quickly spread and businesses boomed. Everything from cars, generators, to toothpicks is now made on assembly lines. However, now many of the lines are automated by machines and computers which can push out items at incredible rate. The late, great, Henry Ford helped to put America at the forefront of production and his legacy lasts to this day.

The Ford Motor Company is an industry giant in todays economy and has a total annual revenue of over one hundred and thirty billion dollars. Henry Ford was involved in his lasting legacy until his dying day which took place in 1947. Few men have been able to cultivate and shape the world like H.F. has done, and his legacy far outshines some of his faults.
