It's almost time! Within weeks, World of Warcraft Cataclysm will be here. If you're like most players, you're busy preparing for the big day the best way you know how - by surfing the message boards, watching videos, and trying to talk your buddy who got into the beta into giving you some tips.

But face it. That's all well and good, but that kind of preparation isn't going to have you ready to rock it on launch day. Azeroth is getting transformed. New player races are appearing. New levels, new gear, new dungeons. Now is the time to get ready. You just need to know how. That's where this article comes in. In it, I'll feed you some info that will be crucial if you want to be one of the leaders in the conquest of the newly remade world.

The Top Three Things You Will Need

While adapting to the post-Cataclysm state of Azeroth will be complicated, there are three main things you're going to need. And if you get started on them now, you'll have an edge on most everyone else.

Lots and Lots of Gold

Step one, pile up the gold! It's a safe bet that you're going to go through piles of it once this thing hits. Prices for all that great new gear and those vital materials are going to be insane, so you'll either stockpile gold now, or fall behind later.

It's safe to assume that you plan on upgrading your professions, buying dungeon gear, getting the new materials, heck if you plan on getting anywhere, you had better have a serious cache of gold on hand on launch day. But if you're going to pile up a lot more gold than you usually do, you're going to need a new plan for doing so.

Appropriate Gear

The word on the street is that leveling isn't that tough in Cataclysm. The hard part is having good enough gear to keep up the pace. If your gear isn't great for level 80, you are going to have trouble when you hit Cataclysm.

And you can bet that all the gear you need is going to cost more once the Cataclysm strikes us. It is crucial to get yourself the best gear you can now, while it is relatively easy to do so. This is particularly important if you're planning on leveling a Gnome or Worgen. All that lower-level gear that's so cheap right now is going to be skyrocketing in price soon.

Think I'm crazy? Think again. What's going to happen to prices when virtually everyone in the game is trying to level new characters at the same time? Can you spell price increase? Stock up now on the gear you'll need later and you will save yourself large piles of gold.

An Effective Plan

Lastly, make a plan. If you really want to rock this expansion, you should sit down and figure out what you're going to do, and how you're going to do it. This includes all the new locations you want to visit, the alts you will roll, which new mounts you want to buy, and so on.

Why rush? Because the sooner you figure out what you need to do to complete your plan, the sooner you can start on the parts of the plan that you can do now. You can grab yourself a real advantage over most other players if you're smart about it and get to work now.
