1. Water. This plant does not enjoy being dry. If it does not get enough water then it will die. Water the Phal orchid at least once per week. If you choose to water it every other week, make sure you check the medium to make sure it does not need watering.

2. Light. Keep the Phal away from long periods of direct exposure to the sunlight. Placing the Phal in an eastern facing window is best because it will benefit from the cooler morning sun and also get some shade.

3. Temperature. The Phal can thrive under normal household temperatures. However, for best results, try to maintain a nighttime temperature between 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and daytime temperatures between 75 to 85 degrees.

4. Humidity. The Phal requires humidity. As the temperature in the plants environment increases, so does the Phal orchids need increases. Do not let the environment become dry as this can cause problems for the orchid. A kitchen or bathroom will provide sufficient humidity for the plant.

5. Growth season. Early spring and sometimes during the late months of the winter season is the typical growth season for this orchid. If the Phal orchid is well cared for, it could produce numerous flowers for you during this period.

6. Potting Media. Phal orchids are not choosy when it comes to what type of potting media to use. You can use charcoal, bark based media, pellets, sphagnum moss, or a medium orchid bark mix. You should repot it every two years and immediately after flowering.

7. Leaves. Keep the leaves and stems dry. Excess moisture in these parts can cause black rot.

8. Fertilizer. Apply a mild fertilizer weekly, especially during the plants most active growing phase. Try to use a high quality, water soluble fertilizer, and try not to overfeed the orchid during the winter months.

Knowing these eight basic guidelines will ensure healthy, blooming Phal orchids. With the right amount of care and attention, you will be able to grow beautiful orchids giving you and your family enjoyment for years to come.
