Here's How to Sing Better and Better - How to Sing Better Through Larynx Control Exercise
This is information I have discovered from years of private singing lessons, and tons of research materials such as books and audio programs. This is information that you can immediately apply to your voice, and feel great improvements.
How to sing better through larynx control
Your vocal tone (how you sound) is determined by a few important factors. One of the most important factors, is the position of your larynx. (The larynx is the grouping of muscle, cartilage, and ligaments, also commonly referred to as the "voice box")
Here's an experiment that will show you how drastically the larynx position affects the tone quality....
Firstly, do a big deliberate yawn. Feel the relaxed sensation in your throat? Now.....as you let out the air, say Ahhhhhh! Hear how rich the tone is? Try doing this while gently resting the tip of your finger on your adams apple (The small notch on your throat, there are two.....it's the top one). As you will feel, this exercise gently pulls the larynx downwards.
This movement actually increases the distance that the sound travels through, before the exit point.....your mouth. This extra distance gives the sound waves more space to be amplified, and thus the thicker, richer tone.
Now let's try the opposite.....
Say the word "nay" in a nasty, nasal voice. Listen to the poor quality of the tone. It is dominated by the nasality.....It sounds terrible! This sound is achieved because the nasty, nasal sounding "nay" forces the larynx upwards. It shortens the length in which the sound can be amplified, and as you can hear, greatly reduces the tone quality.
Isn't it amazing how much the tone changes with the different larynx positions? Thick and rich with a low larynx, and nasal and piecing with a high larynx.
The position that achieves the best tone quality is......you guessed it! Right in the middle. The position where the larynx sits naturally is the best position for singing. But there is a problem.....
For some reason, when we sing, the muscles that pull the larynx up and down find it hard to stay relaxed. This is especially true when trying to sing high notes. Because of this, our tone quality suffers, and we feel a great amount of muscle tension. If you want to know how to sing better , you must learn to allow these muscles to relax while singing. The larynx can then stay in a central position, and tone quality is maintained. So how can we help these troublesome muscles let go?
Here's how to sing better and better
The best solution is to learn the speech level singing technique . This is a technique that systematically trains your voice to let go of the tension that causes the larynx to move up and down. With each new exercise, your voice feels even more freedom, and your tone becomes richer and richer. This technique will show you how to sing better in every aspect of singing.
