Famous Sites of Kerala:

Fort Kochi: It was basically a fishing town under the ruler of Kingdom of Kochi. In 1503 when Portuguese settlers came here they gave it a new name Fort Kochi. They built this fort near the water front to protect their commercial interests. Later this fort was captured by Dutch and British settlers. The Dutch even destroyed some portions of this amazing monument. Travelers can also visit beautiful beaches in Fort Kochi. This place is also famous for its museums and spice trade.

Mattanchery Palace: It is also known as Dutch Palace. It was built by Portuguese in 1555 AD. Later in 1663AD changed its name and became Dutch Palace. It was influenced by traditional Kerala architecture. There are two temples in its vicinity dedicated to Lord Siva and Lord Krishna which are very popular among Tourists. Today this place is famous for its portrait gallery and mythological murals.

Napier Museum: It is located in Thiruvananthapuram. It was built in 1855 and was named after Lord Napier the then governor of Madras. It architectural style was influenced by Gothic architecture. It is a beautiful building and a true landmark of Kerala. Tourists can see rare ancient artifacts, coins, ornaments, bronze idols and an ancient temple chariot decorated with ivory carvings.

Mattupetty Dam: It is located near Munnar in Idukki district. It is a huge reservoir for collecting monsoon water. It is also a major producer of hydroelectricity. This dam also helps in irrigation and is a source of living for many villagers. Many animals also flourish on its water. These heritage sites are a symbol of rich tradition and cultural of ancient Kerala. These buildings are a true miracle which brings to life the charm of olden times.
