Herpes on the Genitals or on the Genital Area

Herpes on genitals or the genital area are known as genital herpes

, or Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV2). HSV2 is a sexually transmitted disease, and estimates vary, but it is believed to be present in around 1 in 6 adults in the US today.

Around 80 percent of people infected with the herpes virus are not aware they are carrying it, which accounts for the high infection rate. This is because not everyone show symptoms, and as the symptoms can vary vastly between cases, some people have much milder symptoms than others. Women are more likely than men to be infected.

The psychological effects of herpes are most often more distressing to the sufferer than the symptoms of the virus itself. This is because of the social stigma attached to the disease. Sufferers can experience anger, depression, anxiety or worry as a result of being diagnosed, and for the most part this is based on misconceptions and myths or rumour.

The symptoms can vary a lot when it comes to herpes. Genital herpes signs can include being plagued with blisters or sores, or a mild rash or itchy groin may be the only symptom.

There is no cure for genital herpes, but it can be effectively controlled. Prescription medicine and natural treatments can be equally effective, and just like the symptoms, treatments will vary in effectiveness from person to person. So try a few treatments and see which is right for you. Daily treatments, following a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and avoiding stress will also go a long way to controlling the disease, preventing outbreaks and reducing the severity of outbreaks when they do occur. Topical treatments for herpes on genitals can also reduce infection time and relieve pain and itching.
