Hiatal Hernia Symptoms and Treatments for Heartburn Sufferers

, heartburn can be an indication of hiatal hernia symptoms. A valve called the sphincter muscle prevents the stomach acid and digested food from surging upwards into the esophagus. However, when pressured by a hiatal hernia, symptoms of prolonged lasting heartburn pain after eating can be felt and should immediately be examined by a doctor.

A hiatal hernia, is a condition which develops when part of the stomach protrudes through the opening of the diaphragm where food goes into the stomach. It's hard to tell if you have a hiatal hernia, because some of the hiatal hernia symptoms are similar to common heartburn condition.

To diagnose a hiatal hernia, an x-ray has to be taken. It's about the only way the doctor can tell whether it is a hiatal hernia or not. Most common hiatal hernia symptoms are: vomiting, gastric reflux, heartburn that worsens when bending over or lying shortly after eating, backflow of stomach contents into the back of the throat also known as regurgitation, a sour or bitter taste in the mouth, frequent belching, hiccups, chest pains radiating from below the breastbone, feeling some kind of pressure in the chest, bloated feeling after eating, abdominal discomfort, pain in the esophagus, difficulty swallowing.

Unfortunately, my hiatal hernia condition required surgery. I hate hospitals and undergoing surgery is nerve racking. I have feared the worst.

What if I die because of some type of complication during surgery?

What if the surgeon could not repair my hiatal hernia?

What are my chances of being completely cured from this operation?

What if I need to a second surgery? Can I afford it?

So many stressful questions.

Finally, my operation was successful and my recovery time took less than one month. I could honestly say that I fell no more pain and could finally eat like I use to.I do take care of myself and watch carefully how and what I eat.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have taken care of my bad eating habits, and prevent years of suffering.

If you have hiatal hernia symptoms, don't hesitate, seek medical attention right away, chance are it's a minor heartburn problem, it's always betterto be safe, than sorry.
