Hidden Fences For Your Dogs Safety
What is a hidden fence?
What is a hidden fence?
A hidden fence, also known as an underground fence, is an electronic but invisible barrier that specifies your dogs boundaries. It keeps them from going beyond their boundary limits, and from straying as well. A lot of dog owners use underground fences to keep their dogs inside their property ever since it was invented in the 1970s. It is also very easy to install as there is no physical fence that will be seen. If a real fence does not look good on your house, then an invisible electronic fence may just do the trick in keeping your dog in without destroying your houses aesthetics. The hidden fence can now be easily bought, with several companies producing many different types. The original maker of the first hidden fence, however, is the company called Invisible Fence, which still provides high-quality hidden fences up until now. However, no matter what brand it is, a hidden fence system can help keep your dog safe by keeping him where he should be.
How to use the hidden fence
The hidden fence is very safe and easy to use. It comes with a dog collar, which you will put on your dog for the electronic fence to be activated. Your hidden fence is actually nothing more than an antenna that communicates with the collar. It sends out shock signals when the dog sets foot where the boundary wire is. You also have to condition your pet to the hidden fence, and you can do this with the help of some materials that come with the hidden fence system when you purchase one. At first, you can work with the warning tones first. The warning tones go off when the dog gets near the boundary line. When the warning tone goes off, pull your dog back using the leash. Repeat the process several times until your dog learns what the warning tone means. You can also go on to teach your dog how to stay within bounds even without a leash by trying to get it to go further and letting it experience the shock signals.
Some reminders when using the electronic fence
Before you go ahead and buy yourself a set, there are some things that you should know about underground fences. A hidden fence will only successfully work with the proper conditioning and training from the dog owner. And when you install an electronic fence, make sure that you check on the system regularly to make sure that it is working properly. Check the dog collar for batteries, and make sure that the prongs that activate the warning sounds and the shock signals are in contact with your dogs skin. Sometimes, even if the collar is on the dog, the prongs do not touch its skin. In these cases, you can tape the prongs to make sure they are attached to your dog. Some dogs are also not fit to work with underground fences. These are the dogs that are a bit aggressive because the shock signals may not have the desired effect. The underground fence is also not recommended for those who have large dogs. And since the hidden fence is indeed hidden, it cannot be seen by people as well, so it might even affect visitors, delivery guys, mailmen, and the likes.
