Based in the area of street in Somerset, the Clarks company has profits of 125 million in the year ending January 2010. It began life in 1825, when brothers Cyrus and James Clark decided to begin a company making sheepskin rugs and slippers, with a workforce made up of workers from their local village.
For most of the companys life span Clarks has operated from the UK, only outsourcing production overseas in recent years, with design all still taking place in the UK. There have been various iconic Clarks shoe designs, such as the Wallabee, the Desert boot and the Playdeck sandal.
The Playdeck sandal was a sandal manufactured for all ages and genders from the 1950s to 1990s, which had a flat crepe sole with leather insole, plain ankle strap and two buckled straps. Coming a variety of great colours, the best selling of which were the tan, white and navy blue styles. This style has proved so popular that it has since been reintroduced as the Kestral soar in the spring 2010 originals range.
Clarks Shoes offer a huge range of styles for all occasions, be it for dress shoes, casual shoes, or even sports shoes occasions.
For dress shoes, there are a great range of mens and womens styles available. These include mens dress shoes, either laced or non laced,
Clark Women's Shoes, as high heeled or non high heeled alternatives, or even buckled or non buckled as well as in some cases laced. Children's dress shoes are also available in similar styles to those of the adult shoes, minus the heel option.
For casual shoes there are a whole range of possibilities, with men's shoes styles including boat shoes and casual slip on boat style shoes minus the leather laces. For women there are wedge heel shoes, kitten heeled shoes, and flat shoes that can be slipped on or laced, for all casual occasions.
For sporting needs, there are various tennis shoe styles, as well as hiking style boots with added grip for manoeuvrability and style. These also come in the form of trainer style shoes, although Clarks do not emphasise a sports shoe style, more a comfort style.
