Highlander

A midsize crossover SUV, the Toyota Highlander was first introduced in 2001 which

shared the Toyota Camry platform with its Lexus RX/Toyota Harrier cousin and came in five and seven-seat configurations. It became a sales success for Toyota in a number of markets all over the world.

Toyota introduced the second generation Highlander and the Highlander Hybrid in 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show. All Highlander models come standard with enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, tire pressure monitor, a driver's knee airbag, front seat-mounted side torso airbags, side curtain airbags for all three rows which includes a rollover sensor and active front headrests. Also standard are the Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and the Downhill Assist Control (DAC).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the Highlander "Good" overall in their frontal offset crash test, and good in all subcategories except for "Head/neck," which is rated as "Acceptable." It is also rated "Good" overall in the side impact crash test, as well as the roof strength test.

The 2010 Highlander can seat up to seven passengers. The middle section of its 40/20/40 second-row bench folds away into its own receptacle, leaving a pair of captain's chairs. The one-piece folding third-row seat is smaller than most competitors' and is highly suitable for children.

The vehicle is available in three trim levels: Base, Sport and Limited. Base models have an impressive array of standard features that will satisfy many consumers. The Sport models are equipped with bigger wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and some added luxury and convenience items. The Highlander Limited has the softest suspension tuning and comes with leather upholstery and a wide assortment of interior accessories.

The second generation Highlander

The 2010 Toyota Highlander boasts decent fuel economy, three available rows of seats and a smooth, car-like ride. It is one of the more affordable midsize SUVs and is a good value over time. IntelliChoice, the market leader in automotive ownership cost and value analysis, gave the 2010 model a value rating of "Above Average" for its low cost of ownership over five years. The Highlander also won U.S. News's 2009 Best Midsize Crossover for the Money award for its all-around value.

In their review of the 2009 Highlander, Car and Driver Magazine gave their verdict thus: "The latest Highlander from Toyota offers the same practicality and livability that made the first two generations a popular choice among families. Interior versatility, good fuel economy, a strong V-6 engine, carlike refinement, and a handsome and spacious interior should be enough to put the Highlander on any mid-size-SUV buyers shopping list."

If you are planning on buying a new (or even a used) Highlander, one of the best places to go is Gullo Toyota, especially if you're in Houston, Texas.
